Deputy Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel said the country's technical education system needs to be further developed. The government is taking steps to set up new institutions by filling the vacancies of teachers in the technical sector. He was speaking at a function organized by SME Foundation and German development agency FES at Agargaon Paryatan Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday. Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, the Deputy Minister said that ensuring quality technical education is one of the priorities of the government. Various initiatives have already been taken to ensure quality technical education, including changing the curriculum, increasing the number of effective and thematic courses as per the demand of the industry. Director General of the Department of Technical Education. Md. Helal Uddin said the government has technical education institutes in 64 districts at present. The government has taken initiative to expand it to 100 Upazilas in the first phase and to 329 Upazilas in the second phase. However, in order to maintain the standard of all existing technical education institutions, an initiative has been taken to rate the institutions in A, B and C categories. SME Foundation Chairperson Prof. Md. Masudur Rahman said that although there are about 10 and a half thousand technical educational institutions in the country, it is necessary to increase thematic training, internship and practical knowledge by bridging the gap between the demand of industrial owners and the curriculum of educational institutions.
